Elevation Burger in Houston

A GREEN Burger Joint.  Really?  Really!

Out shopping at lunch time on Kirby Drive, we noticed for the first time that there was a relatively new business in an old familiar building. Turns out that it’s been open for seven months. The name, ELEVATION BURGER caught our eyes and we decided to drop in for a burger and see what gimmick named this place.

The interior was minimalist and squeaky clean. No burger porn… no old grocery store that sells burgers.

Elevation Burger is a serious green business (franchise) and frankly, the food is delicious. Imagine a burger place that sells, pretty much, only burgers… but also offers a Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Their place mats point out “It’s our core mission to play a leading role in progressing beyond the harmful practices of industrial agriculture to pursue a more sustainable and healthier future.”  They only use USDA-certified organic, grass-fed, free-range beef. It is ground on-premises! It is free of pesticides, antibiotics and other chemicals. All offerings have a healthy balance in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids and is low in calories, as well as saturated fat. They use high-efficiency equipment and use renewable non-polluting materials such as bamboo, sorghum and recycled/recyclable materials.

Enough about that. Not many photos of food here, as Sally and I ordered the same thing… the Elevation Burger.  The list of toppings on the burgers is impressive and includes aged cheddar cheese… along with a tomato/mayo-based sauce that we elected to get on-the-side. There is also a Hot Pepper Relish that can add a kick to your burger. Kinda like Sriracha with most of the sugar removed and hotter chiles added. With no exaggeration, the burgers are delicious and, though slightly smaller in diameter that many burgers, we were very full when we finished our lunch (which included French fries that are cut on-premises and fried in olive oil!). By the way, if you want salt on your fries, you are welcome to salt them.
Water wall on the patio.

So, I rushed home to write this review and description of a single double-meat burger, as I don’t want it to be MY fault that you don’t try it tomorrow.

  1. I'll give them another chance and hope it's gotten better, given your review. However, for the sake of a more complete picture, my experiences regarding their burger patty: sadly thin and cooked well-done. I've ordered it several times over the course of a few months, and it's consistently neared the consistency of cardboard — not a great burger by any means. I go there solely because they're relatively fast and my office is just around the corner; it's looks the same for most of the other people there during lunchtime. If the price was lowered a few dollars, I might consider eating there a little more often. As far as this location is concerned, it may just as well be the nearest fast food joint for the local block of office workers. The place uses allegedly better ingredients, but any regular fast food chain would probably do just as well, if not better, in the same spot.

Also, be wary of the Blue Bunny ice cream they may try to sell off as Blue Bell in their shakes. I'm not sure if it's of deceit or ignorance, but you can judge for yourself.
